General 1, Ruby Tuesday 0
Mrs. General and I took Grandma out to eat last night to Ruby Tuesday. On the upside, RT is one of the only restaurant chains around that still has a salad bar (what ever happened to those?); on the downside, they also have a lot of not-so-healthy menu items. I skipped ‘em all and had the salad bar only. Had to go with “light” dressing since there was no fat-free dressing (Attention all restaurants — every single one, large and small — is it so freaking difficult to carry just ONE type of fat-free dressing? Just one? Is it laziness or just stupidity on management’s part to not have one token fat-free dressing?). Anyway…no cheats on the salad either, pure vegetables, and no food afterward. Weighed in at 205.5 this morning, which would put be down 3.5 from last week. Going to the Y today to work out, and with that plus strict eating today, hoping to stay at or below the 205.5 for the official weigh-in tomorrow.
Have set 205 as my first intermediate goal, and am denying myself a haircut or shave until I reach it. In the past, I have frequently used the no-shave-until-goal method (short-term goals, obviously), and it’s worked well, because not only does the itching drive me crazy, my wife hates it and bitches about it, and my kids don’t really like it either, because it’s scratchy.
Email Josh (I probably can't win, but I'm still trying like hell.)

Ruby Tuesday? What was the special occasion, big spender?
I have an aversion to salad bars — always have. I could eat a salad if they brought it to me, but I’d rather not use a salad bar.
If you’re that close, maybe a shave and a haircut would shed the necessary weight in hair to get you below the goal.

The salad bar is wonderful but having done a stint or two as a bar tender and manager at Ruby Tuesday I can tell you to be careful… The dressings are only low fat if the salad bar attendant puts the right ladle with the right dressing. I can recall countless times where the idiots mixed it all up… too many bong hits before the shift. Low fat ranch and regular ranch are the big culprit of mix ups. When in doubt use regular old vinegar and oil.
Another good rule of thumb with all meals that you eat out is to use the nutrition information provided as a guide not a rule. If your fish is tasting extra juicy it is probably because the cook dumped an extra scoop of butter over the top before broiling. Recipe specs are also more likely to be followed if you go when the place is slow giving you more accurate nutritional info.
