Ummm…..That Hurt!

I was kinda upset about my minimal weekly loss so I decided it’s time to rev it up a little bit.  Now, on my lunch break, instead of just going to hit the steamroom/sauna and wait to work out later I’m going to get some extra ass-busting in with a little jogging.  A very little.  I just jogged 1/2 mile and walked 1/2 mile and the jogging damn near killed me.  I’m of the mindset that if it’s hurting it’s working so I’m going to keep it up.  I’ll keep you posted, or my friends will post my obituary.

Email Rob (I need all the encouragement I can get!)

Just like anything else, it gets easier the more you do it. I was just about in the same boat when I started back on the treadmill. I’m up to 3 miles of jogging and 1.5 miles of walking every day. I’ll be satisfied when I can jog 7 uninterrupted miles. Stick with it for a while and you’ll look forward to a little treadmill time.

And also — as long as you keep that heart rate up, it doesn’t matter how you do it, you’ll still burn fat. Don’t kill yourself. Not only will it hurt a lot, if you;re like it will cause you to not want to work out and cause you to make excuses not to go to the gym (my knee hurts, my feet hurt, etc.)

What I do is walk for 1/2 mile at a 15 minute mile pace, then run (pretty darn fast — I double time the walk speed to an 7 1/2 minute mile pace, but you wouldn’t have to do that) for a mile, then walk until my heart rate gets lower (a mile or so), then run 1/2 mile. I do that for 4 to 5 miles a day.

Speaking of hurting — the old age work out injuries have begun. I pulled something in my back/neck — and actually I have a feeling it was more from sleeping than working out, which is sad. I’m gonna have to take a day off from the gym and see if it gets better. I can barely turn my head to the right.

Follow up — I worked out today and the back was fine — sore but fine. I went to the grocery store afterward and was walking down the aisle when it totally seized up — I hit the floor and remained on my knees, in the aisle, for a minimum of five minutes. I honestly thought I was going to have to ask someone to call an ambulance because I could not move for a while. I fought through it and got home — it feels much better now, but still hurts.

The General found that story quite amusing.

I love you man, but that funny. Real funny.

    That story is very amusing.

I’m having a little trouble with my right knee if that makes you fellas feel any better. Today on the treadmill, it would nearly collapse every time I started to run. I had no problems walking at all. My workout ended up being a half-assed hour of walking. Though I still got the weights and sit ups in, it still felt like I was wimping out.

Hey Monk — sounds to me like you have Wii-knee.
